Young Professionals Network of the Commonwealth (YOPNEC)

Join the YOPNEC “Promoting a Network of Commonwealth Young Achievers” The Network aims at bringing together young Ugandan professionals who have studied & worked within the Commonwealth countries; it will be reinforcing the role of young professionals in development. YOPNEC will recruit members from the corporate, NGOs, academia, media and other private sector entities to companion the values of the Commonwealth for the socio-economic transformation of Uganda and the East African region as a whole. The Network will officially be launched in November 2008. Membership is open to all young professionals and students across the East African Community and the Commonwealth. 1st NATIONAL COMMONWEALTH LEADERSHIP ACADEMY (NACOLA) 10th-12th Aug. 2008 THEME: “Education & Employment; a Commonwealth challenge for young people”


 

The Commonwealth has over the past years of its existence been working with young people in several areas that have had an impact on their development. Young people have played a very significant role in the promotion of the Global Youth Agenda. Objectives: 1. Providing an open academic forum for the youth involvement in the Commonwealth and ways of helping them to become part and parcel of the global organization 2. Addressing the challenges of education faced by young people in Uganda and the East African region as a whole with regard to the UN Millennium Development Goals Topics: Leadership and Negotiation Skills, Business Skills Development, the UN System and the MDGs, The Commonwealth and young people, ICT for Development, Career Management and Managerial Ethics, Practical skills in Project Design & Implementation, HIV/AIDS Sensitization and Awareness, Conflict Resolution, Management and Peace Building techniques, Communication Skills, etc… BENEFITS: • Partnership and networking with other young people. • Information sharing with renowned speakers Award: Certificate of Participation. Computer Training Programme 2008


UN DESA -Global Alliance on ICT4D Community of Expertise on Youth Social Technopreneurship & the Republic of Korea’s Agency for Digital Opportunity and Promotions (KADO/KIV) through the Commonwealth Peoples’ Association of Uganda are organizing a 2 weeks Computer Training Programme in July/August 2008 for students and other IT professionals Course Modules: Elementary Class: Basic Computing & Internet (Students & Teachers) Intermediate Class: Designing websites, Graphics (Web) design Advanced Class: Basic networking-WIFI (Wireless networking) Registration is going on at CPA Uganda Secretariat until 30th July 2008; tuition fee of 30,000/=UGX (no registration fee). IT Students after completion of their training in August

From the 6th – 31st of August 2007, CPA Uganda carried out a computer training programme for its members and volunteers conducted by the Korea Internet Volunteers (KIV’s) through the Korean Agency of Digital Opportunity and Promotions (Republic of Korea) and for teachers numbering to more than 100. The training was at Kyambogo University Kampala and Mackay Memorial College, Natete with the aim of equipping the young people in Uganda in Social Technopreneurship aimed at the use of IT for empowerment and poverty reduction as part of the implementation of the WSIS Tunis 2005 Action Plan in Uganda by CSOs.
